The Basic Education Ministry says the General Education Certificate it plans to issue learners exitingBasic Education minister, Angie Motshekga, told delegates at the elective conference of the South African Democratic Teachers’ Union in Johannesburg on Thursday that they are working on formalising Grade 9 as one of the exit points of schooling.

Ministry spokesperson, Elijah Mhlanga, says this is part of enabling learners who want to enter specialist schools to do so. “That’s how artisans are produced, and we are talking artisans now… and it is also part of the three streams of education that we are talking about – where we are launching focused schools where people can go for Maritime schools, Aviation and even Engineering… so this is part and parcel of that particular project,” says Mhlanga.

ANC cadres are psychological creative, they are playing with south Africans' mind as they create more future grants recipients professionally so that they can be voted now&again coz an illiterate destitute someone will listen to the voice of the feeder

Do we still need grade12..some will not be motivated to go to grade12 if they can accomplish the same at grade 9..dumb decision

I think this is nonsense why they can't incouradge children's to finish their matric instead of promoting this usesless certificate I have standard 8 certificate which was called JC that certificate mean nothing you can't go anywhere with that certificate why grade 11 now

Wow. Is this all part of the 4th industrial revolution. Grade 9 education will give you the correct skills to be a valuable player in the SA team. Levels are dropping aided by the ANC. What leadership. The leaders are second to none. Why dont they do away with schools one time?
