Even so, it’s a device that has become less widely used in recent months, even as the Omicron BA.2 subvariant has led to an increase in the number of coronavirus cases in many parts of the U.S. The ruling doesn’t impact the ability of most businesses to require masks in the workplace. Most companies had already dropped mask requirements for the vast majority of their workers, or are planning to this year, according to survey data. They are choosing instead to focus on getting employees vaccinated and back in the office.
