In an interview, Alan Moore described his short story, "What Can We Know About Thunderman?" as an "exorcism" of his feelings about the comic industry.

Alan Moore is best known as a prolific comic book creator, but in recent years he has stepped back from the medium to focus on prose writing. He released the novel Jerusalem in 2016, and in 2022, published his debut collection of short stories, Illuminations. The collection comprises nine stories, including "What Can We Know About Thunderman," which Moore described in a recent interview as an "exorcism.

Moore's comments make it clear that he still sees comic books as a transcendent art form, but that in his words, "the comics industry is a dysfunctional hellhole.
