'It’s great that he’s back because he is the best candidate for the job. He knows the underage and club system very well, what’s out there, and he has Francis and Noel back and Eamon O’Shea is a huge addition.'

Alan Kerins has hailed the return of Micheal Donoghue to the Galway hotseat, saying his former teammate has “unfinished business” in the role.

He was linked with a return in the meantime but it’s finally come to fruition now, with Donoghue having stepped aside as Dublin manager recently after managing them for two seasons. “It’s great that he’s back because he is the best candidate for the job. He knows the underage and club system very well, what’s out there, and he has Francis and Noel back and Eamon O’Shea is a huge addition.

Cathal Mannion and Flynn, both of whom will soon turn 30, are the youngest of that crew, so a rebuild appears to be in order for the new management, with instant success less likely than when Donoghue took on the job previously.
