Investment outside London could bring £100bn boost to economy, says Bank of England’s former chief economist

He is a leading adviser to the government on levelling up and says that scrapping HS2 will undermine the confidence of private investors.

In an exclusive interview with our Economics Correspondent Helia Ebrahimi, he said that we should be talking about HS3, 4, and 5 and not just HS2. Tomorrow he will release a report saying more investment like HS2 – outside London – could boost the economy by £100 billion a year.
