The founders of Blume and sisters, Taran and Bunny Ghatrora have quickly seen the brand’s audience expand to people in their 20s and 30s who never quite learned to cope with issues that originated during puberty (from skincare to periods, to sex ed).

According to the wellness company, Blume, 2019 is like 2004 but with dewier skin, faster internet, more therapy and most importantly, their newest facial oil product, Meltdown, which is made to combat all kinds of acne . Last week, skin and self-care company, Blume launched their “Puberty Do-Over” campaign to call attention to the fact that many women still deal with the same issues that we did during puberty.

In 2016, my sister, Taran was in law school and studying how womxn and girls in developing countries suffer from stigmas and lack of access, surrounding their periods. She called me with the idea for Blume when she was still in school, and we immediately got to work on our first version of the business, which was a subscription service focused on providing organic pads and tampons across North America.

We realized to get to the root of the matter, we had to address puberty. From there, Blume was born to provide natural products forself-care needs. Blume is the brand that girls grow up with – we're all about helping our customers grow into the best version of themselves and embracing all parts of growing up and womxnhood, including the good, the bad and everything in-between. When you “Blume,” you grow and flourish.

We launched Blume with a few foundational products in personal care and self-care space to help form good habits from the beginning. These products range from organic pads and tampons, a deodorant that is free of parabens and aluminum, and blemish treatment that doesn’t make your skin peel — products that we didn’t have but wish we did.

Fluker: As the company grew, the more you both worked to eradicate the misconceptions and insecurities surrounding women’s health. How did you both come to the realization that puberty was the root of the matter? Why is exploring puberty important to Blume? We did a survey with 1,000 womxn, and 60% said that they felt that their self-esteem plummeted around puberty. The fact that girls can PINPOINT exactly when they felt their confidence drop at this phase of their lives is astounding.
