a "Ring Smart Lightbulb" filing to the FCC, an indication that the company may be looking to further expand its smart home lineup. For Ring — whose products include video doorbells, security systems, security cameras, and smart lighting products — this would represent the company's foray into standalone smart lights .

By potentially moving into the smart lighting space, Amazon would further challenge smart home partners by encroaching on valuable market share. Amazon the $100-million-dollar Alexa Fund in 2015 to groom third-party smart home device makers for the Alexa smart home platform. This was emblematic of its strategy in the early days of the smart home industry, when ecosystem providers — most notably Amazon and Google — courted third-party developers to create extensive product lineups.
