Twitch and Caffeine's approaches to Super Bowl-themed live streams directly reflect their respective strategies

As live-streaming surges in popularity, platforms are feeling the pressure to pull eyes to their streams and stars. With the big game coming up this Sunday, Twitch and Caffeine aimed to draw viewers by centering content on the mass-media event and fanfare that surrounds it.

Twitch has built its reputation on esports and more hard-core gaming with a competitive edge, whereas Caffeine with the promise of providing hybrid content across music, gaming, sports, and celebrity streamers. Last night's live-streaming events on each platform offered a microcosm of how their approaches to content will differ:

Caffeine. The newest live-streaming platform took what's increasingly becoming a characteristic route, with a star-studded livestream starring its biggest representative, Offset, rather than esports-specific talent. Coming together with Ric Flair and Rae Sremmurd's Slim Jxmmi, the Migos rapper streamed a game show live from South Beach in Miami to celebrate both the platform and the impending championship game.
