Trump's chief of staff reportedly said the US is 'desperate' for more immigrants to boost the economy, despite the White House's immigration crackdown

Two crossed lines that form an 'X'. It indicates a way to close an interaction, or dismiss a notification.

In this Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2018, file photo, budget director Mick Mulvaney testifies before the Senate Budget Committee on Capitol Hill in Washington, on President Donald Trump's fiscal year 2019 budget proposal. Documents obtained by The Associated Press show that Mulvaney, Trump's appointee to oversee the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, has given big pay raises to the deputies he hired to help him run the bureau.

"We are desperate — desperate — for more people. We are running out of people to fuel the economic growth that we've had in our nation over the last four years." Mulvaney's comments are a striking contrast to the position of the White House, which has focused on cracking down on immigration.
