Heathrow Airport has announced a record-breaking October, with over 7.2 million passengers passing through its terminals, marking the busiest October in its history and an increase from 7 million during the same period last year. The airport is on track to shatter previous records, anticipating a total of 83.8 million passengers for the year, which would surpass the pre-pandemic peak of 80.9 million in 2019 - by an average of more than 7,000 additional daily passengers.
To keep up with demand, Heathrow is investing over £1 billion this year alone, in enhancements such as new retail spaces, additional security lanes, runway resurfacing, and improved equipment for assistance services. Heathrow's chief executive, Thomas Woldbye, said: "This year has been all about breaking records at Heathrow.
He also highlighted the importance of Heathrow to the UK economy, adding: "Being home to the world's most connected airport is a huge boost for the UK economy thanks to Heathrow's unrivalled links for passengers and cargo. "To maintain that competitive edge, the Government needs to recognise aviation's vital role in enabling and supporting other sectors in its industrial strategy."
