Despite Storm Darragh, over 10 million Brits shopped small on Small Business Saturday, spending an estimated £634 million in-store and online. The highest average spend per person since 2020 was driven by a desire to support local businesses and acknowledge the challenges they've faced. 70% of shoppers plan to continue supporting small businesses in the future due to their positive impact on communities.

Despite stormy weather conditions hitting the UK last weekend, the nation’s support for small businesses remains strong, with over 10 million Brits shopping small on Small Business Saturday, which took place on 7 December.

Encouragingly, seven in ten said they will continue to shop small next year because of the positive impact these businesses have on local communities. “Trading was good for us on Small Business Saturday with lots of customers, new and old, braving the storm to come and choose their trees and buy decorations,” said Clive Collins, owner of Catsfield Christmas Tree Farm in East Sussex.

Widespread support for this year’s Small Business Saturday campaign came from across the political spectrum with Prime Minister Keir Starmer hosting a special reception for small businesses at Downing Street last week and Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves undertaking a special visit to meet small firms in Leeds on Friday.
