The Irish Aviation Authority has warned that unless 'urgent action' is taken at a political level the Irish aviation industry will not exist

The Irish Aviation Authority has warned that unless "urgent action" is taken at a political level the Irish aviation industry will not exist.

Mr Brandon said the European aviation sector will record over €140 billion in lost revenue in 2020 and that things are not looking good for 2021. He said the only way the Irish aviation industry can start to recover is when passengers can travel throughout Europe with minimal restrictions. The Irish Aviation Authority welcomed the Government's intention to adopt the EU-wide traffic light system for travel.

He pointed out that the mechanism is broadly satisfactory if all countries are 'green', but it starts to falter when countries are 'orange' or 'red'.

Bad days!!

...the Kiwis did this in the space of a few weeks. What is so complicated about rapid testing(like Germany) and, if positive, a 7 day compulsory stay in an airport hotel(like New Zealand) This is not rocket science...it just needs a few civil servants to do a proper days work

Won't be long until RTE is shutting down either..🦊🇮🇪

Civilisation can wait, all those countries who rely on tourism, all them have to wait until we eliminate the coof.

We seriously need to consider the opportunity cost of a bailout to the airlines..... If such a thing is considered they'll have to be set some serious targets regarding emissions and changes to their industry.

Ye, keep aer lingus.. let Ryan air go....useless fecks.

The climate change brigade will be delighted!! On the other hand they will have to reschedule their foreign holidays!!

I cannot believe how inactive/complacent this government is on this matter. We all understand there is a massive dilemma facing them here in balancing health and commercial interests but there appears to be a lethargy in their approach.

Government doesn't care

Sadly there seems to be no hunger from this government to help the aviation/tourism trade in Ireland, 2021 is already close to been called a “write off” as nobody has faith in the Irish ways of doing things!

Imagine being in Govt and someone has to point this fact out to you.

That would be great for the planet

All the 'green' arguments are ridiculous. If aviation self destructs, all that industry research into e-planes will disappear along with them. We need an industry, to invest in a clean industry

The aviation industry will be just fine, new owners maybe but that’s capitalism, they’re only interested in saving vested interests not the industry, in the words of dirtbag Noonan “that’s what vultures are for” 🤷‍♂️

Lockdowns, travel restrictions, economic suicide all have consequences?😳 Who could have seen that coming?

This is great news👍🏻 No one wants to travel anymore, mixing with disgusting diseased people. Lock the country down forever and everyone should stay at home with their mask on of course. Order everything online. Go on a virtual holiday it's safer that way. Super excited for the💉

Travel restrictions, alfresco dining, cycle lanes. The globalists hate the tourism industry and do not want people venturing outside Their Own towns. We will all be slaves in the end. All that was required was a little fear mongering.

Sadly I believe this is the aim.

Maybe time to look at less environmentally damaging options. climatecrisis

fruitless covid restrictions. One cannot have endless flights in & out of a country and at the same time lock up the people, shut down businesses and expect to kill off covid Doesn't make sense.

Oh great another business looking for a handout, so much for capitalism eh
