A cease and desist letter sent to Oak Brook from the attorney representing red-light camera company SafeSpeed LLC doesn’t appear to deter village officials from moving forward.

SafeSpeed red-light cameras were installed at the busy but relatively safe intersection of Illinois 83 at 22nd Street, a corner shared by Oakbrook Terrace and neighbor Oak Brook. Shown on April 20, 2022.

“We respectfully ask that the Village, through its Mayor and Trustees, cease and desist from further disseminating falsehoods about SafeSpeed and its executives, including Ms. Zollar .,” Fardon wrote. “Political expediency is not a defense against defamation; nor is it an excuse for failure of careful diligence and honesty toward the people you serve.

Fardon wrote that apparently Oak Brook decided its own case lacked merit before any discovery occurred, shortly after it became clear that the defendants in the case were going to challenge the complaint. As village officials consider filling a new lawsuit, Manzo said the current Village Board and village manager will not be so easily intimidated and manipulated by outside forces.
