Windfall tax 'will bring about job losses', energy boss says - as Rishi Sunak to address cost of living crisis

A windfall tax"will bring about job losses", the energy industry has said.

Deirdre Michie, chief executive of Offshore Energies UK, which represents the UK's integrating offshore energies industry, said their supply chain is"really worried" about the implications of a windfall tax, which is expected to be announced today."It will undermine our supply chain and it will bring about job losses."

She said"we need to wait to see what the details are" but"this isn't feeling good, to have this unexpected surprise on a sector that has been committed to working positively with the government on the security of energy supply and on the energy transition".She said history shows that a windfall tax"doesn't work" because it undermines investment.

She defended increases in profits saying"they come on the back of two years of significant losses by this sector", pointing to the impact of COVID-19.

That's our problem because?

This is a normal knee jerk reaction/threat from politicians, big businesses when any cost increase happens - understand that employees are just an overhead. gom grumpyoldman

specifically the ones in the cabinet 🤣😂

So they couldn’t employ staff without totally unreasonable profits? Sounds they shouldn’t be in business

Energy billionaire is lying, what a suprise

Maybe if the energy bosses didn’t boast or brag about £millions/billions in bonuses or profits.? 🙄

As long as it’s his own, and his boss, I’m sure I’ll get over it 👍🏻

How about give carer more money. I care 21/7 for £450 a month 🤬🤬

I've got news for him, ridiculous energy bills will bring about job losses!

Royal_Seal_BD these people are the worst 😂

Threatening people and the government, the government does the same with his citizens and citizens keep struggling. You know where you all can go with this 💩 fest

Not a problem...unemployment is at its lowest in years. Plenty jobs out there. The sacrifice of a few is preferable to thousands in poverty and in debt!

No it won't. It's a threat.

Targeting Scotlands Natural Resources in order to get English politicians out the shit. No doubt the job losses will be in Scotland too 😒 While we provide you cheap form energy security at the same time. Whilst Scots pay high energy bills for the pleasure.

Giving up on billions of ££££ profit harsh so take it up on employees!! I don’t care, tax them heavily 😡

So now helping out the poor is considered holding the country to ransom just like the RMT workers voting to strike..FUNNY HOW BIG CORPORATIONS THREATING TO LEAVE THE COUNTRY OR SACK PEOPLE IF THEIR PROFITS ARE ENCROACHED UPON IF THEY ARE TAXED A LITTLE MORE ISN'T THE SAME ?

No it will not

Shhhhh dont tell everyone

Can he prove that?

Use the greedy fat cats, bonuses and profits to offset job losses, its all greed at the expense of the consumer

We should all just start taking like the elites and higher ups do yes it would crumble society but it would crumble on our terms not theirs . The government are a dirty vermin and the sooner people wake up the better

The Energy boss…

Vile news at it again I see .
