Instead of beachside holidays and new memories, Denise Tiyse says her caravan was plagued with issues and the supplier couldn't care less.

Denise Tiyse used her inheritance to buy a new caravan in October last year to enjoy a much-needed break with her husband. The ACCC says it has received 1,300 complaints over the past five years and that the industry is on notice

According to the Caravan Industry Association of Australia one in 13 Australian households owns a caravan, but the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission says the industry has treated many buyers poorly. She said after initially dragging their feet to fix or replace the oven at all, the supplier then failed to hire a gas fitter to oversee its repair, resulting in two nine-kilogram canisters leaking gas into their caravan.

"It's not just the holiday but the money — we're on a farm, we have to hire somebody to do our work while we're gone," Ms Tiyse said.

ACCC need to whip car , house and pokies industry into shape

Why don’t you name the manufacturers? They deserve to be exposed

Any particular brand that stands out as 'crap'?🖐

BUY USED. I got the deal of a lifetime on a well built trailer….best purchase I ever made.

I would never pay 75k for a Caravan, plenty of very good second-hand ones around !!!

Imagine living in a country where a customer has no rights and a govt agency that is a toothless tiger says a lot and does nothing.
