A new ‘National Ports study’ has found that there is currently only one port on the island of Ireland with the capacity and infrastructure to accommodate the staging and marshalling of offshore wind projects

Up to €2 billion will need to be invested in Ireland’s port infrastructure to facilitate the development of a large-scale offshore wind industry, a new report has found.

The ‘National Ports study’, which was commissioned by Wind Energy Ireland and produced by engineering consultancy firm Gavin & Doherty Geosolutions, found that only one port on the island of Ireland, Belfast Harbour, is currently ready to be used to construct offshore wind farms.
