A Defend the Right to Strike rally is set to take place on the Flag Market.The event on Wednesday 1 February has been organised by Preston and South Ribble TUC and Lancashire Area TUC as part of a national day of action.

With close to half a million workers on strike tomorrow, it’s the biggest day of industrial action in a decade. The TUC-led action comes in the wake of anti-strikes law being passed in the House of Commons on Monday. MPs voted 315 to 246 – a majority 69 – in favour, and the proposals will now face scrutiny in the House of Lords.The two-hour Preston rally will start at 11.30am, and will feature speakers from 12pm.

So far confirmed are Ian Watkinson, Secretary of NEU, City of Preston Branch and NEC member, Janet Newsham, Co-ordinator and Chair of the Hazards Campaign, Michael McKrell, Chair of the UCLan Branch of UCU, and Mark McCarrick, Chair of Preston No.1 Branch, RMT.
