It seems like not a day goes by without another Queensland builder going bust, and there’s a reason for that, says Sky News host Amanda Stoker.

“With costs 44 per cent higher over two years, and it taking twice as long now to build a home than it did before the pandemic, they are stretched to the limit,” Ms Stoker said. “It’s never been harder to make a small or medium-sized construction business work in this state and every time one of them goes bust – the remainder learn the lesson that margins are too slim, and prices have to go up.

“This state – indeed this whole country – needs a massive wake-up call on just how hard it is for a little guy to do business right now. “But clearing this regulatory mess is entirely within the power of state and federal governments and it would make a long-term and a short-term difference to the cost of building a home.”
