BAE Systems PLC BA, -3.65%, a defense equipment/products company, and major oil & natural gas companies business BP PLC BP, -3.17% rounded out the top five largest decreases as their stocks dropped 3.65% and 3.17%, respectively. Shares of food retail firm Tesco PLC TSCO, +4.28% and full-line insurance company Aviva PLC AV, +3.22% climbed 4.28% and 3.22%, respectively.

The pound was up 0.64% against dollar GBPUSD, +0.60% at $1.2154 and 0.15% against the euro GBPEUR, +0.12% at €1.1556.
