Frenchman’s Bay in Pickering is on the market for $60-million and two notable parties have put their hats in the ring. The group “Buy Our Bay” was started by Jeffrey McLarty. He says he wants to crowd-source a bid to buy it as a community and so far, more than 25 people are part of the group.
The group says they intend to set up either a co-op or a non-profit, with a social mandate to preserve the bay.In an interview with Durham Radio News , Mayor Kevin Ashe spoke in favour of putting it into public hands. “Having the ownership in the public would actually protect from future development,” said Ashe to DRN. “It would allow us to be stewards of the land and to look after the weed situation.”
