The redevelopment of the Glasgow Meat Market side has taken a step forward.

The abandoned space was taken over by the Meat Market Regeneration Community Interest Company in 2023 to make way for housing, a park and facilities.Phase two of the plan includes a new sports hub with several facilities, restaurants, bars and event space, a planning application for which has now been submitted.Plans state the buildings will be"the base for a national sporting organisation, on-site provision, accessible to the local community and for Padel Tennis".

They will also"create a network of a new circular economy recycling re-use hubs, a bar/bistro facility and covered open multipurpose events space under the canopy of the refurbished shed structures". The Glasgow Meat Market initially housed an inn, sheds and accommodation for sheep, bullocks and other livestock and was one of the last remaining markets in the country until it closed in the 1980s.Readers’ comments: You are personally liable for the content of any comments you upload to this website, so please act responsibly.
