Government to ban foreign business from 'certain sectors'

Johannesburg - The government is developing legislation that will bar foreign nationals from operating in certain sectors of the economy, a key member of President Cyril Ramaphosa’s cabinet revealed this week.

“The legislation will also have to cover and be realistic to such kind of dynamics because we are not going to wake up and have a massive deportation of Zimbabweans, Mozambicans and Lesotho nationals,” Lamola said. Lamola also spoke of the challenges he had been battling since his appointment. “What we are grappling with is that those who have looted the state did not just loot money for the building of houses, at Eskom or anywhere. They have also looted the money that is supposed to prosecute them,” he said.

South African lose hope on business industry because of our government who don't care about us How can u allow a foreign travel mile from Africa to come and open spaza shop, salon, internet Cafe, church, car wash & car workshop those a basic business for us as south-africa..

Please continue on this action. Now you show - you are not one africa

Certainly township cannot be able to afford the Billions of African and World people. It's time for government to settle foreign nationals in Whites suburbs of Camps Bay, Sandton, Umhlanga, Constantia etc. Foreigners must live & have shops in white areas for social cohesion

There goes our hairstylist and waiters, but also our academic tutors🙇🏾‍♂️

Still government doesn’t have a proper solution to the problems.

After how long yoh haa. Include Europeans and Chinese please

It must start with “spaza shops” that isn’t adding any value to the economy. That trade must be restricted to locals

All talk No action

I hope they will include Shoprite_SA and PicknPay

Ma_LoJ Wish I still had some confidence in my useless government!

How about ban foreign criminals from certain crimes too?

Start with Bidvest

This sounds very much like a National Party policy. Oh wait, the National Party and the ANC merged into one party a couple of years ago.

This is sick. Ban big businesses from the townships and villages. Let people trade by themselves

Western foreigners?

BlackCulture_HM Am smelling removing Pakistanis tuckshops from kasi.

Can they look into shoprite and all.these unnecessary malls

BlackCulture_HM Again, we are being hoodwinked here by MYANC government. We know they are in the pocket of owners of the economy. We must braise ourselves for expansion of WMC into townships. Our government never puts an African first. We are watching

BlackCulture_HM And it's gonna be too late because PnP and Shoprite already have spaza shops and township entrepreneurs can't compete with them.

Can they stop PickandPay_ Shoprite_SA to enter the spaza shop market..

Foreign nationals should not be allowed in informal trade. They can bring their formal businesses. Leave that to the locals. South Africa is still an LEDC. You cannot come all the way from DRC to cut people's hair in SA. Special Skills only please.

Big up to that if you're serious about business, Spaza shops, Hair salons, shoe repairs, labourers in building construction must be you're priorities so south Africans can start earning money and grow the economy

Did you know about this? Magda_Wierzycka

This Ronald Lamola is on to something!

AzaniaIzweLethu Our SARB is own by foreigners from Europe

R

sibonisodhlam Long overdue!!!

Ayingulo uqeshwe ngu Ramaphosa ngomgunyathi? Ningandigxidikeli please

Mxm this government has long failed to govern 👀

The whole ANC has been serving the needs of the minority since the took over power. The is nothing great that blacks can say ANC have done for blacks. The country has laws & they laws aren't obeyed & have failed to enforce them to benefit the black majority cos they serve whites.

Good move at last

Avocado_Mafia What are they waiting for?

UnmovedLee Which one the African or western foreign business

We should start with churches

Starting in the mining sector neh

Waaaah mxm!

They will target Indians n blacks not whites

Good move

Talk about implementation and give time frame...

It's simple as ' hello '. If this information is true, then Let's see what will happen😌. When you get something for free without deserving it, the duration is limited, which will lead to the disaster. It's a matter of skills here.☺☺☺

Can we start with BidVest hle....

RonaldLamola deptsmallbus Where can we post submissions on which sectors of the business needs to be exclusive to citizens? the_dti must also join in, do what other countries do.People come here register companies & do work with GovernmentZA then take money 2 their countries

And what happens to those foreigners who already have businesses in those sectors?

ramsayshonge Petty manner to address issues?

Finally

Why, bcos they have them covered through awards of citizenship? Nobody & nothing deserves a ban more than this stupid govt!🤔

Trends_Central Won't it have the same effects of BEEEE.policy designed to empower blacks and yet the same blacks meant to benefit end up being used as 'Fronts'.

Trends_Central “Command economies” don’t work. Just looks zim.

HonourableHloni It will never work

Mxm that will never happen

Notice that there was no listing of sectors restricted to South Africans. Wonder if mining is one of them

Start in townships and resuscitate local businesses please 😌

Reading the Labour laws of our country you will find that we already got this restrictions they are talking about, we only need the enforcement of the laws

This is an epic fail!

They must ban Supermarkets and Tuckshops

HonourableHloni Anglo American

She means . Doctors engineers

Foreign owned Spaza shops in townships and rural areas must be first on the list.

Start with Mining Sector.

I hope the word foreign doesn't mean Africans.

HonourableHloni Decisive leadership 👏👏

Botswana has been doing this for ages

Will they be protecting south Africas Dagga industry?

Now they are talking

Good. Other countries are also doing it.

🙏 Leadership 👏

Can we start with Mining please

I think government should ban non professional foreigners

The editor was supposed to put this picture, instead of the one of the minister with a headline caption 'govt to ban foreign business from certain sectors.'

We want more. We want more

They useless this ones, the ANC. The immigration act that is drafted by them still prevent foreign nationals to take over jobs that dont require no experience or formal education but no it is happening under their watch and SA people vote them to govern SA every election😏😏😏

Well done Government on this one!!!!

Mxm! Seeing is believing.

When afrophobes run the government we're bound to get this type of stupidity...

Long overdue

Another stupid MYANC policy . All anti investment anti job creation and common sense

Business is about competition..if burger king feared Macdonalds was already operating there wouldnt open in SA.If you were not able to run a spaza or selling sweets banning will mean fokol to u.

Well that's just dumb

What's the point of restricting foreigners more especially in the informal sector when the same government makes it difficult for SMME business to thrive...

Took you long enough

👏👏👏

EvatonForum Akuwande 🙏🏿🇿🇦❤
