Experts told Insider that the federal government will need to take swift action to protect confidential information stored on stolen devices. Extreme measures will also likely be needed to secure existing hardware at the Capitol, including potentially wiping all computers in the building and rebuilding its IT infrastructure from scratch.
"Once intruders have physical access to a system, the game is over," Jackie Singh, a security researcher who worked as a cybersecurity expert for the Biden 2020 campaign, told Insider. "The safest thing to do once it's been out of [its owner's] physical custody is to wipe it."
