ABC said ratings for its Winter Olympic coverage was lower than expected and its losses could exceed an anticipated $40 million. Sex workers were expecting losses, too. In the days before people found escorts online, Calgary — like most other cities — had a stroll or two, where sex workers looked for customers. But as workers told the Herald, business had been bad. “Europeans are crying that $100 is too much. They’re used to $35,” said one worker named Gina. Additionally, escort businesses said they weren’t as busy as they’d hoped to be.

The city of Calgary was full of good cheer. Visitors were giving the city top marks for being clean, utilizing friendly volunteers and ensuring the first few days of the Games were a success.
