A federal lawsuit alleges that TNT Crane & Rigging in Fort Worth hung nooses and white supremacy symbols and used racial slurs to address Black employees.

In one instance, a white employee told a Black employee that Black people are lazy, the lawsuit alleges. When a Black employee once complained, his car’s tires were flattened at work. The same employee was confronted by a co-worker who shoved, threatened and cursed at him.

When a white employee reported his concerns to managers and human resources, the company reduced his pay and work hours, causing him to resign, the lawsuit says. “TNT knowingly permitted a work environment filled with racist comments and imagery,” Brian Hawthorne, an attorney for the EEOC, said in a written statement. “No employee should have to work in an environment openly hostile to their race, and no employee should suffer reprisal for objecting to discriminatory practices.

The lawsuit, filed Thursday in federal court, seeks compensatory and punitive damages for the four Black employees, as well as back pay, compensatory damages, punitive damages and reinstatement or front pay for the white employee.
