Tenía 76 años. Somers había padecido cáncer de seno durante más de 23 años y falleció el domingo por la mañana, anunció su familia en un comunicado proporcionado por su representante de hace tiempo, R. Couri Hay. Su esposo Alan Hamel, su hijo Bruce y otros familiares cercanos estuvieron con ella en Palm Springs, California. “Su familia estaba reunida para celebrar su 77mo cumpleaños el 16 de octubre”, señala el comunicado.
“Este es un campo de batalla con el que estoy familiarizada, y soy muy resistente”. Se le diagnosticó por primera vez en el año 2000, y también tenía cáncer en la piel.
