John Mullen said businesses should not be “completely anaesthetised” on social issues, but warned it can be dangerous for firms to back politicised causes.

Incoming Qantas chairman John Mullen has criticised corporate Australia’s advocacy of the Indigenous Voice to parliament in a major indication the airline’s loud championing of social causes will change.

Incoming Qantas chairman John Mullen, between Transurban CEO Michelle Jablko and Jarden co-CEO Aidan Allen, said businesses should adopt balanced approaches to social issues that could outlast a government.“Corporate Australia has done itself a bit of a disservice with ... some things like the Voice,” Mr Mullen said at The Australian Financial Review Chanticleer 50th Anniversary lunch in Sydney on Thursday.
