The maker of 'Fortnite' is now letting players bypass Apple's and Google's app stores, the latest escalation in an ongoing battle between the tech giants and app developers

Two crossed lines that form an 'X'. It indicates a way to close an interaction, or dismiss a notification.Epic Games, the company behind "Fortnite," is offering a new way to make in-app purchases that bypasses the controversial 30% fee charged by Apple's and Google's app stores.

But Epic's new system appears to be in direct violation of Apple's and Google's app store policies. Neither company immediately responded to a request for comment. Instead, Epic is directing players to use its direct payment system "to get the best deal on V-Bucks and real-money purchases." "Thousands of apps on the App Store approved by Apple accept direct payments, including commonly used apps like Amazon, Grubhub, Nike SNKRS, Best Buy, DoorDash, Fandango, McDonalds, Uber, Lyft, and StubHub," the company states. "We think all developers should be free to support direct payments in all apps."
