The Business Council of Australia has called for a sharp increase in the migration intake over the next two years, followed by a higher level over the long term, arguing it is key to fixing the labour shortage problem.on Monday to all double-vaccinated foreigners, the BCA has used its annual pre-budget submission to argue for short-term measures to repair the economic damage caused by the pandemic, and more permanent measures to build the economy.

“The responsibility for driving economic growth needs to transition from government spending to the private sector.holding back the private sector including acute worker shortages, the urgency of improving access to skills and lifting business investment above its historically low levels.” The BCA argues the cap should be increased to 220,000 places for each of 2022-23 and 2023-24 to catch up on lost skilled migration, and then revert to 190,000 a year thereafter.

The migration changes would be accompanied by easing restrictions on a raft of skilled visa categories.another round of the low-and-middle-income tax offset, or LMITO. Last year, amid concerns about female voters, the need to maintain confidence, and a recalibrated budget plan to drive unemployment below pre-pandemic levels, the government extended the LMITO again for 2021-22 and is considering doing so again.Mr Reed argued against it, saying now was the time to turn away from temporary measures and fund long-term reforms that promoted economic growth.
