CoreLogic CEO Lisa Claes says it’s up to leaders to create an environment in which employees stretch themselves but avoid burning out.

isa Claes says a pivotal moment in her career was when she realised the path to becoming CEO wasn’t about endlessly accruing more knowledge.“As I was a barrister, I came from that technical specialist background where knowledge is incredibly important,” the chief executive of property analytics firm CoreLogic says.

Fast-forward to today, and it’s clear these ideas still resonate with Claes. When asked to nominate the hardest thing about leadership, she talks about “unleashing human potential within your organisation”.“So as a CEO, you need to be stimulating the environment in a way that you’re pushing and pulling people out of that comfort zone, to a sweet spot that falls short of a red zone, because you don’t want people in fear or stress. No one does their best work in that.

I prefer to do my exercise in the morning. I prefer to do it almost every day, and that could be anything from a Barry’s Bootcamp to a run.
