NSTlifestyle 'Malaysia's film industry is moving in the right direction'

Jay Jeon, director of the Busan International Film Festival – one of the most prestigious film festivals in Asia – said this augurs well for the local film industry.

The 93-minute film focuses on Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s political comeback via the 2018 general election which swept his coalition Pakatan Harapan to power, toppling the Barisan Nasional which had ruled for 61 years.According to Jeon, the BIFF provides a platform for organisers to explore and discover new talents in the film industry from Asia.The festival began on Oct 3 and ends today .

In a related development, the New Currents Awards at this year’s BIFF went to Vietnamese director Tran Thanh Huy for his film “Rom”, and Iraqi director Mohanad Hayal for “Haifa Street”.“Our aim was to tell the world the real story about the everyday life we live from our own perspective.
