Energy companies have responded with some scepticism to the ‘big stick’ bill after it passed the House on Wednesday. The bill would enable the government to intervene in the market to ensure energy companies keep a cap on prices and maintain supply. “I think people have got to be very careful about the form this takes,” Business Council of Australia CEO Jennifer Westacott told Sky News.
“With these things comes enormous responsibility to make sure that we’re sending the right message to industry.” Sam Maresh, Country Leader of GE Australia, told Sky News, "GE is a company that supports markets, because markets support competition and they support technology and innovation." "We think there are better ways to go about doing that and getting that outcome," Mr Maresh said.
