An Indiana man charged with negligent homicide in his granddaughter's fatal plunge from a cruise ship docked in Puerto Rico insists that he didn't realize an 11th-floor window was open before the 18-month-old fell to her death in July.
window in Puerto Rico filed a lawsuit Wednesday against Royal Caribbean Cruises, accusing the company of negligence by allowing the window to be opened. “We should be celebrating with presents and a birthday cake, but instead we are talking about her death,” Chloe’s mother, Kim Wiegand of Granger, Indiana, told reporters at a news conference in nearby South Bend.Chloe’s grandfather, Salvatore Anello, has been charged in Puerto Rico with negligent homicide. 😣
Negligence? Was Royal Caribbean watching the baby?
Just incredible!!! Grandpa places the child on a rail near an open window, the kid falls and dies.......but somehow this is the cruise ships fault. Take responsibility GRANDPA!!! It isn't the ships fault for your negligence.
What took so long Wasn't it negligence of Grandpa?
What too do long. Wasn't it negligence of Grandpa
Is there anything Americans hate than taking responsibility?
Family is a bunch of opportunists. Sue the stupid old man who threw her out the window. Ridiculous....I am available for the Jury if anyone needs someone
Very Trump of them.
I would like to know the breakdown of who is in the stock market by party
Imagine, having to look in your kid's eyes & always seeing 'you killed my baby'. Horrible mistake & poor judgment on grandfather's part. I'm kind of surprised RC had a window open in such a location. Kids get into everything. So do tourists. Poor planning.
Negligence is not by 🚢 but pure done by 👴
Parents are negligent
Negligent family she’s for negligence 🙄
Although i am sorry for the toddlers death. it was the grandfather that cause the death!! people need to start talking responsibly for their actions!!
Umm...umm...umm...
Most mean are color blind to some extent, I am too. I have NEVER had a problem seeing glass, because it has no color. The grandfather was at fault. It's sad, but true. Trying to sue the cruise ship line is just as sad.
What happened is sad but they are actually suing the cruise for the grandfather's lack of judgment. Only in America free for all $$ grabbing.
Sad but negligent grandfather standing her up like that if vision impaired ! Window or not ! There clearly are openings everywhere ! Take responsibility!
But the 'father' is facing criminal charges right?
As if it's not bad enough this family was negligent and is responsible for their child's death, now they are going to try to profit from it. Shameful.
royalcarribeannotguilty
No no no! People need to stop passing the buck with tragedy. Grandfather’s fault 100% end of story. Who assumes anything with an infant? We gotta stop this
This is why I don't like Judge Cardozo palsgrafvlongislandrailroad
That's like suing McDonald's for hot coffee. It's been tried and was laughed out of court.
The CCTV footage shows the grandfather leaning out the window so the “im colorblind I didnt know the window was opened” doesnt hold up.
I don’t know what they could sue RC over. I mean it comes down to common sense, don’t hold a child out the window.
parents .. have
How is this the cruise line’s fault?
Sadly, the grandfather IS responsible 😢
Oh please.....hate greedy people who try to take advantage of a tragedy. ap royalcaribbean PuertoRico greedy
This headline is misleading. The toddler didn’t fall to her death. The child’s grandfather dropped her...to her death. I felt sorry for this family, but now they’re using the kid’s death for a payday. If they’re looking to sue anyone for negligence, it should be the grandfather.
Does the AP style book approve of 'the parents...has sued'?
Of course!
Case will be thrown out of court - no matter how you spin it, grandad was the adult watching her and should have known better. Its all really sad indeed. May this little girl RIP with the angels.
The grandfather lifted the kid up to an open window and the kid fell out.. How's that RoyalCaribbean fault?
Here is a tip. Watch your damn kid. That is your job.
It’s obvious there was no window. The grandad even leaned out.... the judge will throw the book at them
How is the settlement money going to make this horrific situation whole?
But...her dad propped the baby up and dropped the toddler to its death...he’s literally charged with a crime for the baby’s death.
The grandfather is an idiot but they are suing the cruise line?
Maybe if good old Grandad hadn't Yeeted her out the window!
*have sued.
It’s a simple tragic accident. The grandfather shouldn’t be charged and the Cruise line shouldn’t be sued..
Royal Caribbean should sue the grandfather that tossed her out the window.
I’ve been on that EXACT boat. The windows are divided into two sections with the top section the part that opens. There is a railing about 4 feet above the ground, just below the opening. He picked her up and put her on the railing. Not RCs fault
'Chloe’s grandfather, Salvatore Anello, has been charged in Puerto Rico with negligent homicide.' Um, I think they might be suing the wrong person(s).
Huh, shouldn't they be suing themselves for negligence?
Lifting a child up and putting her in front of an open window is negligence
Don’t you love the personal accountability aspect? It’s someone else’s fault I made a poor decision. The attorney representing them should be disbarred.
They might sue gramps he pitched her overboard.
Where were they when their child fell through open window?
God forbid the ship opened a window. Maybe the family should have paid better attention. Anyway you look at it it sucks for everyone involved but take some credit for your mistake instead of always blaming others
It was the idiot grandfather's fault.
Who is responsible for the child!?
Really.
It was their fault, FFS.
