Elon Musk reportedly told SpaceX employees they have a much higher chance of dying in a car crash than from the coronavirus

Elon Musk told his SpaceX employees in an email Friday that their risk of dying from COVID-19 is way lower than it is from being killed in a car accident,"As a basis for comparison, the risk of death from C19 is *vastly* less than the risk of death from driving your car home," Musk wrote, adding that the evidence he's seen about the severity of the outbreak "suggests that this is *not* within the top 100 health risks in the United States," according to Buzzfeed.

This isn't the first time Musk, who's the CEO of both SpaceX and Tesla, has weighed in on the topic. Last week,Musk's comments run counter to what most medical experts are saying, however. A panel of experts at the University of California, San Francisco, predicted this week that betweenwithin the next 18 months. An internist in attendance, estimated from that range that up to 1.5 million could die, a number he said the panelists did not dispute.

Musk advised SpaceX employees in the email to stay home if they felt sick, but also cited a variety of factors that he believed indicated that the virus' spread had been overstated.to stay home if they felt sick or had been in contact with someone with the virus, according to an internal memo seen by Business Insider.

Musk's comments came the same day President Trump, after weeks of downplaying the coronavirus outbreak himself,

End of the day he is telling people to stay home if sick and paying them. That's what matters.

Does he know the rate of those needing critical care is 10-20% and there just isnt enough room to help that many people?

What he said is 100% true.

The hysteria is so stupid. I'm over it. Every year, coconuts and vending machines kill more people than sharks. Yet people are way more freaked out by sharks than coconuts. It's because the disease is like a big scary shark. They see the teeth and assume it's the biggest threat.

If you are segmenting the people according to age and counting only the younger generation yes but death rate is over 8-10% for the elderly. Check out their numbers and recalculate.

So he watched that video, too? First off, a car accident is not contagious. Secondly, the numbers were wrong.

Well, statistics say that he is right. For now. My guess is that they won't say that for long.

Probably correct to say to his young employees but bet it doesn’t apply to his parents, with diminished immune system due to natural aging 🤔

Tell that to the people in Italy...

He is probably correct. And cars are equipped with seatbelts and airbags.

Hey! I don't drive THAT badly. What does he know, four-eyes over there behind him buckled like a little bitch when a dude lobbed a rock at him, nerd.

People are ignorant until they experience it. That's human :)

may not be far from the truth

He’s correct.

Okay, gotta read the article folks. He is allowing employees to stay home if they feel sick, with pay, and allowing remote work. Don't get caught up in his statement about odds of dying (which aren't false)

Yes, he is right, but this is only about the number of dying people, what about the number of hurted people?

That toupee is overheating his Martian brain!

😱

ankhfit8 what do you say?

very true!

Then WHY did Trump put our nation under a State of Emergency. These people are talking on both sides of their mouths.

what's the big deal! elonmusk is right.

Is he giving them all a free Tesla?

Finally someone with some sense.

His comments are a turn off for me buying a Tesla product! It is such an irresponsible position to take. We are in a health crisis — a global pandemic — and each of us on this planet have to contribute our part to ensure the health and safety of our loved ones and communities.

Because they do...

Maybe but they are probably not older. Doesn't Elon has a Mom? It is unwise to downplay this virus with so many unknowns.

True.

I’m a MASSIVE fan of elonmusk but I will lose all respect if any of his staff are punished in anyway for having to self isolate or quarantine from catching COVID19, or has to self isolate after coming into contact with someone who has it and they now show some symptoms.

He is probably right

Tesla in his cars or any car

Fair enough

Irresponsible.

Elon Musk is a dick

Maybe driving one of those self driving ones.

elonmusk You may get us to Mars, but at what cost?

He’s right. So?

Wow. Lost ALL respect. He's part of the system now.

hahahahahahehehehheh., shall i drive the auto..
