Om Malik, a prominent Silicon Valley venture capitalist, is calling for Facebook's 2.5 billion users to make a moral decision and delete their accounts.
Malik, who founded the tech blog Gigaom and now works as a partner at the VC firm True Ventures, published athat compared quitting Facebook to voting. Just as casting a vote can help deprive a candidate of office and prevent an abuse of power, Malik said that deleting Facebook could help slam the company's business.
"You might be one person with just one account, but you are not powerless," Malik wrote, framing the decision to quit as an act of civic duty. "If you believe that Facebook is causing long-term damage to our society, and you don't agree with their values or their approach to doing business, you can choose to leave."
