Federal stimulus money for airlines is keeping them afloat through the coronavirus pandemic, but it’s not proving to be enough to sustain the industry at its pre-pandemic size

Carriers say they will have to shrink, with fewer planes flying, fewer flights and fewer employees come Oct.

1, after restrictions related to their stimulus money expire. Airlines will likely need to park 20% of their planes and cut their pilot workforces in equal measure, Cowen analyst Helane Becker estimated in a recent research note.

I bet their executives still get raises.

Went straight into CEO's pockets. Make America Greedy Again.

They can't! They took PPP, gotta keep all employees

It a consequence of halt to capitalist wheel with driver in back seat in times of pandemic than in front seat driving.personal consumption does preserve labor but industrial renewal of goods& losses does not cease.create economic disorder unless global free trade, travel devised!

I've got no sympathy for these 'poor' airlines. After 911 CATASTROPHE they really went for the jugular and made record profits. They still got bailed out and they today got bailed. The little people will be the one that suffer, and the big fish will get rewarded.

What's new? people!! these fools got their check and fire people what's new? coronavirus COVID19Pandemic ICantBreath investigate EndRacismInAmerica

Actually, this is heartbreaking...airline industry employed thousands and thousands of people. So for all of you who are laughing, STFU!!

I heard airlines are on the same rocket to the moon that the $SPTSI (s&p thot stock index) is on. Projected growth of 5% today with a super duper rare triple buy rating from Wu-tang Investments ($WTI)

Make them pay it back with interest

Shock!

I actually don't know why people are shocked. They take the money to boost upper level pockets and take it out on the employees. Why do people not know this goes on? Do they think CEOs are honest? 😂😂😂🙄🤦‍♂️ 50 years ago, all of these companies would've been shut down.

I can only laugh at this point...

give the money back.

End corporate welfare... sink or swim player-should of managed your money properly. Businesses that don’t go under. Welcome to the real world! It is what it is...but, before you go I’m going to need to cash out my miles.

That's what we are all talking about, from 2008 to present they made billions charging arm and leg increasing all services they can think of now given tax payers money of $25 billion, they have come up with reasons for shrinkage. Next time you will hear buy back of shares.

DrewIDIC_Tinker Wow, who could have imagined this?

realDonaldTrump WarrenBuffett was correct‼️‼️

Quit using my fuckin tax dollars to bail out wealthy millionaires who like to fly. Fuck the rich and their bitchass corporations that fail repeatedly and steal our money.

If people aren't flying, then eventually the stimulus money is going to run out. Is the government supposed to keep subsidizing empty planes for the next couple of years? Are airlines supposed to keep flying empty planes at a loss because the government gave them some money?

so what's the point of the stimulus? Socialism for companies, hard capitalism for citizens

Once their bills and bonuses are paid, airlines will lineup for either more money or bankruptcy.

Executives got their money.

Buybacks

RetirementRight FYI...

what's new? America businesses dont pay taxes. they have slush funds and Lobbyist

Italicized '5' in title/headline alyrose?

Airlines get 25 billion but citizens No stimulus 2

so what? these scum airlines the last thing to worry about

why not just call it U.S. Federal Air then? Tax payers might as well own them outright if we are funding them to keep them afloat.

well, no worries -- realdonaldtrump and his crew of cronies will ensure that they have plenty of cash to get thru the rest....the average peasants should be happy to support the airlines while they themselves crater, right

Then maybe the stimulus should have been aimed at ordinary citizens rather than corporations. I do not agree with extreme socialism. Yet, expecting government bailouts for corporations every few years is insane to me. If they can't stay afloat they need to restructure.
