Software and data engineering company Elephant Ventures is testing out a compressed four-day workweek after its founder says he noticed morale was taking a hit and some of his employees, particularly working parents, were struggling with work-life balance.

The software and data engineering company is testing out a compressed four-day workweek starting this week. Employees will have 10-hour days, Monday through Thursday. "Fridays we are off and we are trying to encourage pencils down, no emails or Slack. We want to really hold the time open," said President and Founder Art Shectman.A condensed four-day workweek isn't a new concept. Companies sometimes implement them as a way to attract talent and increase productivity.

cindygallop Why do so many people assume a '4-day work week' must mean 5 days compressed into 4? In knowledge economy jobs, productivity doesn't directly correspond to time spent. When the weekend was conceived, it wasn't proposed as '7 days compressed into 5'

Sounds good to me - how many hours a day 12 or 14 ?

I would love to switch from 5 X 10 to 4 X 10 days!
