The Trump administration has struck a small-scale trade agreement with the European Union that could send more American lobster across the Atlantic.

Europe has agreed to suspend tariffs on imports of live and frozen lobster from the U.S. for at least 5 years. In exchange, the U.S. will cut tariffs by 50% on some European products, including crystal glassware and cigarette lighters. While the agreement covers a tiny fraction of trans-Atlantic trade, it's important for the American lobster industry which has been at a competitive disadvantage in Europe ever since Canada struck its own trade deal with the E.U. three years ago.

That deal made Canadian lobster 8% to 20% cheaper in Europe and sales of American lobster fell by about 50%, said Annie Tselikis, executive director of the Maine Lobster Dealers Association. Now that all North American lobster will be on an equal footing in Europe, U.S. dealers hope to claw back some of their lost market share. The U.S. lobster industry is still in hot water, though, with the supply of shellfish

Oh goodie, there's a landmark advancement in trade during an economic crisis.

Because we need more sea roaches... how about he helps the working class Americans?

President Trump has kept his promise to crack down on trade cheaters and to promote fairer and equal trade for all Americans.

That’s a good one.

Does this guy ever stop working! He's addicted to winning!!

Great News! Now if they could only stop the spread of COVID, stop demolishing the USPS, help with the fires, and give tax breaks and assistance to the little guy instead of their rich donors.

Does it make up for all the market share lost by the Maine lobster industry to the Canadians because of tRumps trade war with China? I bet not.

How bad did it hurt to write a positive piece on Trump?

Trump's saves the lobster imports! Thank God, we're saved. I was getting worried about keeping in french fried lobster.... This is First One Thenth Of One Percent World problem sorted out for mankind. Hail Trump.

Stop eating animals. Watch your chronic health issues disappear.

Susan Collins needed this.

who the heck can afford lobster right now?

All important parts of this news aside... that pun is unacceptable...

Canadian lobster tastes better.

The US market is still the largest. But because realDonaldTrump and vp messed up a biological response, Main will suffer. SenCollin is responsible as much as any. Hope he learns. For Gods sake. .

I really appreciate the thought that went into the article title. So clever. It's things like this that keep my frustraceans at bay during quaratine.

So silly. Trump caused the loss of the Trade. The EU is bacon bits compared to the ASAIN markets. Which is small change compared to US Restaurants which are closed because realDonaldTrump and VP screwed us all.

No way it replaces the lost Chinese market, which was much bigger.

European allies should be calling for Pompeo's arrest for aiding and abetting an obvious criminal... and he may well be yet, the obese POS. No one is going to side with him on anything (except his rabies infested followers) because they all know he's going to prison as soon as JoeBiden kicks the snot out of him.
