GEORGE TOWN: Penang’s manufacturing companies expect minimal impact from the administrative enhanced movement control order (MCO) in Kota Setar district, Kedah.

The manufacturers had taken precautionary measures when the Sivagangga cluster emerged in late July, said Penang Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers chairman Datuk Dr Ooi Eng Hock.

“These companies had already braced for eventualities and adjusted their operations accordingly during the Sivagangga cluster and we expected the present Telaga and Sungai clusters to have minimal impact on our operations,” he said, referring to the enhanced MCO beginning yesterday.“It is the new norm and firms realise that drastic measures are needed and operations have to be tweaked to continue without any disruption during the MCO,” said Ooi.

“Hotel business was just gaining traction again with the return of domestic tourists. This move has put a damper in our operations,” said its chairman Eugene Dass.
