A study by Harvard and New York University economists finds that people working from home spend around 48 minutes more time per dayIt seems likely, however, that at least some of this time is spent on household tasks, especially to the extent that workers had to take on childcare and homeschooling during the lockdown period. And, as well as saving commuting time, workers also save the monetary costs of commuting and at least some of the time spent getting ready for work.

For the most part, disputes over sharing the benefits of remote office work will be hashed out between employers, workers, and unions, in the ordinary workings of the labour market.
