The 10 most desirable tech companies to work for in 2020, according to Silicon Valley tech workers

Among Bay Area respondents, the majority responded that they're currently most worried about instability at a company, like layoffs or high turnover, and would be more interested in taking a new job if it provided the opportunity to learn new skills, Hired found.

Overall, 64% of respondents noted that whether a company is strongly committed to diversity and inclusion would affect whether they decided to take the job. Hired found that nearly 50% noted that pay transparency is crucial for employers in order to guarantee equitable salaries for every role. Hired also asked respondents to rank the most inspiring leaders in the tech industry. Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk topped the list, followed by Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, Apple CEO Tim Cook, and Twitter and Square CEO Jack Dorsey. Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg and Sheryl Sandberg, Reed Hastings of Netflix, YouTube's Susan Wojcicki, and Marc Benioff of Salesforce rounded out the top 10.

Hired's findings come at a time when Bay Area tech workers are said to be reconsidering their futures of Silicon Valley.from May found that two out of three tech workers would leave the region if faced with a permanent shift to working from home. While it's unclear yet just how large of a percentage of workers have already left the region, for the first time in years, and many companies, including Twitter and Slack, have said their employees can work remotely forever.

What that means for hiring in Silicon Valley remains to be seen, though it's possible that many companies will continue to allow for remote work, even when tech offices can safely begin to reopen. In Twitter's case, for example, Dorsey said"Here we are, an internet company, that's completely centralizing in San Francisco," Dorsey said. "We're not living up to the ideals of what the internet inspired us to be and what it can show.
