This begs the question: What are the secrets behind Nigeria's booming musical industry? What are our musicians doing right that other industries and sectors, especially the political establishment, can learn from to up their game? Here are three undisputable lessons:

The way Nigerian songs have seized the airwaves globally, you’d be right to say that Nigeria is now a musical superpower. The talents are abundant: Wizkid, Davido, Flavour, Patoranking, Burna Boy, 2Face, PSquare, Falz, Teni, Yemi Alade, Tiwa Savage among others. These are just a sprinkling of Nigeria’s new musical legion currently sweeping across the planet. They are churning out hit after hit on a scale unimaginable just a few years ago.

All these were achieved despite the crushing economic conditions as well as the hostile socio political climate in Nigeria of today. All these were accomplished without an ounce of support or incentive from the Nigerian state. It doesn’t matter whether you sing in Yoruba, Igbo, Ishan, Hausa, Birom, English, Pidgin or a combination of languages. It doesn’t matter whether you are male or female; PDP, APC, APGA or YPP. Everyone is welcome. Every bird is free to sing. The only disparity is the power of their music and how well it resonates with a highly discerning audience.
