Don’t let the fossil fuel industry fool you. This isn’t an ‘energy’ crisis | Opinion

Roll out the drill-baby-drill crowd, add the oil and gas industry lobbyists and the politicians aligned with them, and you get the current PR campaign that is desperately trying to tell you that more fossil fuel consumption is good for y’all.

The war in Ukraine has obviously highlighted our societal dependence on fossil fuels. In response, several nations in Europe have realized their questionable past planning and current reliance on Russian natural gas. It prompted them not to double down on fossil fuel supplies, but to accelerate the transition to wind and solar energies, while temporarily seeking to substitute gas supplies where necessary.

We have known for over 30 years that human-made greenhouse gas emissions, mostly carbon dioxide and methane gas, are responsible for the rapid global warming we are experiencing. The fossil fuel industry’s own experts agreed and wrote to their management that unless the emissions growth was halted and reversed, we would experience the adverse effects that are a reality today. The forecasts were clear back then and have only been confirmed and further improved since.

This does not mean that we should stop producing oil and gas tomorrow, a straw man often beaten. However, it means that we need to start immediately to transition in earnest to renewables. Their technical and economic progress in the last 10 years has made clean wind and solar energies highly competitive in nearly all aspects.

It's a Biden crisis.

We know.

This article is behind a paywall, but the left leaning DMN seems to think that Biden is just innocent in all of this. He has no power to do anything about inflation or high gas prices. Wonder if they thought the same when Trump was president?

Exactly

Sounds like we need to get off our dependency on fossil fuels post-haste.

They use any excuse to increase prices and leave them there as long as they can so they make another billion!! The price of the barrel dropped last week yet the price at the pump has not. pricegouging

Of course, it isn't. This is just simply about Oil Company's greed. But one thing all companies have shown quite clearly is that the market never determined the price of gasoline. So that can no longer be used as an excuse for justifying price increases

US crude inventories are 13% BELOW the 5 year average for this time of year per EIAgov. Wave a wand and make that go away.

It’s a Joe Biden caused crisis.

I cannot believe a Texas newspaper can write an article like this. When you artificially limit supply like the Biden Clown Show has done of course prices are going to go up. You can't just cut the cord with fossil fuels until the capacity is there to replace it. 👉🤡

Biden caused that

gas prices have already come down 40 cents in my area.

SO TRUE!!! Thre is NO fuel or oil shortage the gasoline at fuel stations NOW have been refined weeks & months ago... There are 100'S million gallons of gasoline in STORAGE TANKS all over the UNITED STATES...

stop complaining and buy a Tesla!

This is a price-gouging crisis.
