Critics do have a point that Canadian governments have sunk a lot of money into CCUS over the years — $5.8 billion since 2000, according to Environmental Defence — and have little to show for it. A federal tax credit could be justified if it was funded directly from the energy industry’s carbon taxes, to help companies achieve the government’s ambitious emissions targets.
The carbon tax, after all, is not supposed to be a windfall for the treasury, but a means of incentivizing companies to reduce their greenhouse gas output. Given that companies are being forced to pay it, using the revenue to fund emission-reduction technologies would seem to make perfect sense.
Let alarmists have their narrative. Many are ignorant, others deniers. Green energy….It takes more energy to fabricate and operate due to the simple facts that it is a product, has efficiency loss and cannot source itself so going green = increased fossil fuel consumption.
