Here's what lies behind the foggy veneer this Friday morning in local Bay Area business.

has been the hardest West Coast port hit since the pandemic forced shutdowns of ports and factories in China, with activity at the port showing no signs of recovery and instead continuing to decline. The Port of Oakland’s 20-foot equivalent unit container volume fell 5.5% in the first half of 2022, according to CBRE.

Supply chain problems and labor disruptions also hurt exports leaving the port given that it was a major exporter of Central Valley agriculture and Napa/Sonoma County wine to Asia before the pandemic. A downtown Oakland housing high-rise would replace offices once proposed for the site, and the project could become the city’s tallest building. The 46-story tower would house 596 residential units, documents on file with Oakland city planners show.
