The latest round of layoffs include 47 employees.

A Highmark spokesperson confirmed that it laid off 47 employees, including 11 in the central Pennsylvania region, where it employs about 3,500 people.“Reinventing health means reinventing how our organization operates. Highmark Health is actively transforming to meet the changing needs of members and our communities through our Living Health model while maintaining financial strength and stability.

“We are focused on building the workforce of future, which requires identifying talent gaps, investing in in-demand roles, such as nursing, and adapting technologies, such as AI, to better anticipate demand and drive value for consumers.” Highmark says that while it has laid off people, it has also been hiring. The company hired more than 6,100 employees in 2023 across the organization, reflecting 2% year-over-year growth, and has hired more than 1,300 people this year.
