The countdown has begun for British Columbian salmon farms to move to entirely land-based operations after the federal government announced a five-year transition to ban open-net farms in the province’s coastal waters.

executive director Brian Kingzett says the federal government is relying on unproven technologies a decade away from viability to justify an 'unrealistic, unreasonable, and unachievable' transition plan.
