Australia's competition watchdog has given the green light for an $8.8 billion merger between discount pharmacy giant Chemist Warehouse and Sigma Healthcare.
The ACCC said in a statement, released this morning, that the merger would not substantially reduce competition in the pharmaceutical sector. This is despite the ACCC previously flagging competition concerns in June after the merger was proposed. Pharmacy customers would still have a choice between smaller format stores offering personalised services to consumers and the larger format Chemist Warehouse offering, Cass-Gottlieb said.
