During the company's early years, cofounder and CEO Tobias Lütke was so worried about finances that he struggled to sleep at night.

Tobias Lütke, the billionaire CEO of e-commerce platform Shopify, experienced high highs and low lows during the company's early days, he said on an August episode of NPR's"How I Built This with Guy Raz." To deal with the stress, Lütke intentionally prevented Shopify from growing as quickly as it could have between 2009 and 2010, he told NPR. Lütke now has a net worth of $2.7 billion thanks to his stake in Shopify, according to Forbes.
