Starting today, private cars are banned from a busy stretch of San Francisco's Market Street. That move is permanent and designed to ease traffic and give pedestrians, cyclists, buses and streetcars more room.

Another key detail for travelers: Uber, Lyft and other ride-hail company drivers are banned along with other private cars from that stretch of Market Street, but taxis are allowed. Also allowed: paratransit vehicles, buses, emergency vehicles, commercial vehicles and the route’s historic streetcars.

It has also been dangerous. In the last five years, transit officials say, this part of Market Street has averaged more than

Time for this to be done on Broadway in DTLA. Or better yet, ban all cars in downtown and bring back street cars!

interesting that taxis are allowed, but uber and lyft isn't. guess we now know who's better connected at city hall campaign-donation wise. some cars are 'better' than others i suppose.

the further left you go, the more disgust and sneering contempt there is for private cars, largely b/c they allow private citizens to travel at a time and in a manner of THEIR choice, instead of being dependent on the State to come and pick you up.....when THEY choose.

Banning private cars from Market Street will make it much safer for the homeless to hangout, live and to relieve themselves.

It should also free up more room for the homeless as well
